One of our priorities as teachers, educators and parents is to ensure that our students and children use the Internet appropriately, safely and securely. The best way to do this is through education and practice. Digital literacy and digital citizenship are two key theoretical concepts to start with. Understanding and teaching the principles of these concepts to students will certainly give them the insight and know-how to help them navigate the web more safely and efficiently.

Safe search engines for children

Another way to help kids get the most out of the internet is to provide them with kid-friendly search engines. These are search engines designed specifically for young audiences. As you know it, popular search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and Bing offer built-in safe search features to filter out irrelevant and explicit content.

For example, Google provides these guidelines to help you learn how to filter explicit search results using the safesearch parameter. However, these features alone are not enough and do not always prove effective. Hence the importance of the collection below.

Kidtopia also has an extensive collection of child-friendly websites curated by teachers and school librarians covering areas such as social studies, arts, language arts, animals, math, technology, games and more. others.
