Charlotte, North Carolina— Illinois’ Shiloh CUSD #1 today announced the expansion of its partnership with Discovery Education which adds a cutting-edge new resource to the district’s middle and high school science curriculum. In this new phase of collaboration, Discovery Education Interactive Pivot helps educators in the district high school biology classroom actively engage students in the exploration of scientific phenomena while developing their science practice. Discovery Education is the world’s leading educational technology company whose industry-leading digital platform supports learning wherever it happens.

Located in East Central Illinois, Shiloh CUSD #1 serves approximately 375 K-12 students in a single school building. Focused on meeting the unique needs of each student and creating a safe environment where learning has no boundaries, teachers and district administrators partner with community members to provide all students with lifelong learning opportunities in a changing world.

To better engage middle and high school students across the district in scientific inquiry and interactive learning, Shiloh CUSD#1 educators sought out high-quality, standards-compliant digital resources that would quickly get students excited about the topics. scientific and were adaptable enough to meet the needs of different learning styles and levels. After careful consideration of potential solutions, district administrators selected Discovery Education Interactive Pivot for use in middle and high school classrooms.

Interactive PivotWho joined the Discovery Education family of services in 2022, makes teaching science with active learning and scientific phenomena engaging and easy. Launched in 2012 by two visionary educators, Peter Bohacek and Matt Vonk, the platform offers users over 10,000 authentic and interactive science-based interactive videos designed by Pivots team of curriculum experts and community of teachers. These resources, tied to state and national standards, are steeped in research-based teaching practices and are simple to integrate throughout the teaching cycle.

Interactive Pivot offers students the opportunity to explore and learn on their own. The service’s built-in tools, including IRIS TM, a first-of-its-kind color and light gauge, enable fast and accurate measurements. A unique interface allows students to change what is happening in the video and see how that change affects the outcome. Easy-to-follow instructions guide students through collecting, measuring, analyzing, and interpreting data, while feedback provided by open-ended, auto-scored questions reinforces correct insights.

“The educators at Shiloh CUSD #1 work incredibly hard to ensure that the students we serve have access to a learning experience that not only captures their imagination, but also engages their preferred way of learning,” said said Pamela Evans, a district teacher who is currently using the new resources in her classroom. “Interactive Pivot achieves both of these goals because it helps students explore the natural world around them.

Shiloh CUSD #1 is already using Discovery Education K-12 Learning Platform to create engaging classroom learning activities for all students. By connecting educators to a vast collection of high-quality, standards-compliant content, ready-to-use digital lessons, intuitive quizzes, and professional activity creation tools and learning resources, Discovery Education provides an enhanced learning platform that facilitates engaging everyday teaching in any environment. These resources, from trusted partners, are aligned with state and national standards and help educators bring the outside world into everyday teaching and learning.
