Sea of opportunities!
College is a time of endless opportunity, often we students do not realize all that is available to us and how many additional events, workshops or activities we can attend. As a transfer student (I changed my course from product design to environmental science), I decided for myself that I would jump at every opportunity I saw. That’s why I joined the student bloggers, became a student representative, and always try to attend as many events inside and outside the university as possible. This has been extremely beneficial for my studies and my personal development. Last week, while scrolling through Twitter, I noticed that the Scottish Government was offering a workshop on climate policy. As this subject is very personal to me, I decided to register and attend.
After a few clicks to book my tickets, I hopped on a train and went to Edinburgh. I went to the Royal Society of Edinburgh where people working in government taught us how to use scientific evidence to produce policy. All participants were chosen into teams where we studied the official data and proposed possible solutions. Partial renovation of older buildings for better energy efficiency by discussing challenges and opportunities. This event was so enjoyable and interesting that I am actually considering a career in policy development.
It’s the moral of the story, if something is available to you why not give it a try, you never know how it will change your life.
